The Royal Yeomanry 1989-2000

The sudden fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and collapse of the Soviet block changed the role of British forces including the TA. In 1992, the Royal Yeomanry were re-roled as a light reconnaissance regiment much more akin to the 1960s—.

The armoured vehicles were replaced by Land Rovers, training budgets were cut and permanent staff reduced. On the other hand, the British Army was reduced in size and there was more opportunity for individual Yeomen to be involved in overseas operations and major exercises.
