The Campbells

Life in Kent could be dangerous for Mary, staying at her parents’ home, with the Battle of Britain being fought in the skies above her parents’ home, and then the V1 rockets coming down later in the war.

Mary remembers pushing her baby Alistair – who had never met his father - in his pram along country lanes, with soldiers shouting from the lorries which passed by, and finding bomb debris in the local orchards.

She would also drive vans out to the gun positions in the local area, delivering goodies.
