Confusingly there were two officers in the Kent Yeomanry by the name of Pat Mills serving at the same time. Each was known by a nickname – Captain Pat ‘Dark Satanic’ Mills and Lieutenant Pat ‘Mills of God’. Being the more senior of the two, ‘Dark Satanic’ is thought to have his signature on the silver salver.
Captain Pat Mills was commissioned into the Kent Yeomanry in February 1937. He served in all the major theatres of war in which the Kent Yeomanry fought during WW2; France, Middle East and then Italy. In 1945 Pat was awarded the Military Cross for his leadership and devotion to duty.
