Hubert Allfrey (taken in 1940 when still Captain)

Fellow Officers – Major Hubert Allfrey MC

Commissioned in 1933, Hubert was another pre-war officer.

Served with distinction during WWII, being awarded a Military Cross for actions in the Western Desert in 1942, saving the guns of 387 Battery from capture. His citation reads:

“…. He at once led his column straight for this gap and brought the bulk of the party safely through under heavy fire, both from guns and automatics. Major Allfrey himself remained behind in the gap to guide the column as it passed him, by hand signal from the top of his truck. Major ALLFREYs cool and determined leadership and splendid example saved 6 guns and a number of soft skinned vehicles.”
