After the war Allan also studied for the Bar in his spare time. He became President of the Chartered Insurance Institute and Master of the Worshipful Company of Coopers.
He was extremely active in all forms of charitable work in education, insurance, and the church, receiving an OBE for his efforts. He was captain of the Richmond Golf Club.
He remained a key member of The Sharpshooters family, including as a founding museum trustee: as Chairman of the EIO he personally paid our insurance premiums each year until his death in 1997 and, as a founder member the Worshipful Company of Insurers, he established the Company’s association with The Sharpshooters.
