The Barnardo Boy

OBAN Troop

Post Dunkirk

Harry ended up at Cannock Chase, where he telephoned Ethel and they spent a great three weeks together.  Harry returned to his unit in Brixton.  With his brother Kenny,  his friend Ebby Lee and two other gunners,  he was transferred to the 51st Highland Division at Broughty Ferry.

Based in Inverness,  his unit was re-equipped and a huge bonus was that the CO said their wives could join them - Harry then spent a wonderful few months with Ethel.

Moving to North Africa, Harry and Ebby were posted to OBAN G troop 242 anti tank battery,  Harry was in charge of a 6 pounder gun team.

This was a dangerous job, as during offensive actions they were in front of the infantry and Harry was blown unconscious on several occasions.
