Fellow Officers – Lt-Col Franklin Lushington

Born in 1892 in Switzerland, Colonel Lushington was a pre-war regular soldier of some years standing. He was commissioned into the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1913 and went on to command 244th Siege Battery R.G.A. during WW1. It was in this unit that famous war poet Edward Thomas was serving when he was killed during the Battle of Arras in 1917.  Franklin joined the Kent Yeomanry as a Major  in 1933 and was promoted to command the 97th (KY) Field Regiment R.A. shortly after the outbreak of WWII. He continued to command the regiment throughout its time in France and the Middle East before being transferred to HQ Cyprus Forces in 1943.
