Crossley Armoured Car
A standard 6 x 4 Chassis was created by RASC in 1928 and this was thought to have advantages over the four-wheeled armoured cars that had been produced up until then.
It was a rival to the Lanchester armoured car and had the advantage that it was cheaper and lighter. However, there the preference ended. Its engine was underpowered, they were top-heavy, and they proved very unreliable to the extent that units put them in store rather than drive them.
The Sharpshooters appear to have tried to use them, as they appear in the Regiment’s photograph archive on exercise.
