Saxon Armoured Command Vehicle
After the Gulf War of 1991 a major deficiency in biological and chemical warfare capability was identified. Following the 1995 Defence Review, C Squadron became a biological defence squadron. Specialised vehicles were promised but never materialised, but Saxons were supplied along with specialised detection and decontamination equipment.
Saxon was based on a Bedford M 4x4 chassis and weighed 10-tonnes. It had a capacity of ten passengers.
After only two years C Squadron’s role was changed yet again, this time to battlefield replacements for Challenger tank crews, and Saxon was withdrawn.
