East Kent Yeomanry - 2

The first contingent of the 53rd (East Kent) Company assembled at Shorncliffe during March 1900. They served in in South Africa until November. A second contingent served from Jan 1901 until December 1901. The first two contingents served with the 14th Bn c1900. 

The most prominent action that the 53rd Company was involved in was the battle of Tweefontein on Christmas Day 1901 where they made a gallant stand against the Boers but suffered heavy losses at the hands of De Wet.  

A third contingent served with the 11th Bn IY but peace was declared before it sailed for South Africa.
