Sarah was hurriedly sent abroad, but as soon a she came of age and was guaranteed the fortune, she married Cyril in London. Police were posted at the door of the church lest her family tried to interrupt the ceremony.
They lived in London and had no children. Cyril died six years later aged 28 from heart disease. Sarah married a second time, to a brewer, Cecil, and again had no children. Her father died in 1913, and she was totally bereft when Cecil died in 1927.
In 1930, depressed, Sarah committed suicide, and left the remainder of her fortune to charities.
