The Standard Bearer

John maintained his links with both 600 Sqn and The Sharpshooters Associations, becoming welfare officer for both associations,  and the Sharpshooters’ Standard Bearer.

John died in 2007. The Association President wrote in John’s obituary: “John’s enthusiastic and devoted work for the Association, epitomised his attitude to life in general, namely service and loyalty to his fellow man and to his adopted country. John threw himself wholeheartedly into any organisation whose cause he adopted.

For The Sharpshooters nothing seemed to be too much trouble. He always attended every function and paraded the Standard at funerals all over the country, often at considerable expense and inconvenience in the later years when he sadly became more and more incapacitated.

In this way he contributed in no small measure to the family spirit of the Sharpshooters which he himself often mentioned and valued so highly. We have all lost a great friend, but we will always remember him with pride and affection.”
