The Home Front

Entertainment

This was an era before people had home computers and mobile phones. There were few TVs, but most homes had a radio.

It was also a time when people had to hang black-out curtains over their windows.

Still, the government recognized that it was important for morale to keep people entertained. Dance halls, cinemas, and theatres were all popular.

There were famous war-time songs. Listen to Vera Lynn sing “We’ll Meet Again”.
