Our Regiment Today

Training for new recruits

You can learn new skills such as weapon handling, map reading, first aid and specialist training such as signals and driving. Some skills will also transfer over and be of benefit to your civilian job such as leadership, communications skills and fitness.

We will teach you everything you need to know, so the only preparation you need is a basic level of fitness, motivation and a good sense of humour.

Once you have completed your selection you will be given all the kit you need, to undertake 6 weekends of military training followed by a 2-week course at an army training establishment.

Basic training is challenging and enjoyable, teaching you to become an effective soldier and to fulfil your role within the Army Reserve, from military terminology, drill and how to wear your uniform, to physical fitness, weapon handling, first aid, field craft, and map reading. The final two-week course ends with a series of confirmatory tests and a Passing Out Parade, to which family and friends can be invited.
