97 (KY) Field Regt RA Italy 1945

The 25 Pdr Field Gun

  • —Following their withdrawal from St Valery in 1940 the Kent Yeomanry were issued with the 25-pdr Field Gun to replace their 18 pdr guns lost in France.
  • —The 25-pdr was the standard British Army Field gun and was very popular and easy to use.  It could be used not only in the classic artillery bombardment role but also – and frequently in the desert- used in an anti-tank role.
  • —Both regiments, 97 Field and 143 Field, were equipped with it for the whole of the war.
