Sharpshooters on Chocolate Hill, Gallipoli August 1915

Sharpshooters 1914-1918

Gallipoli 1915

In April 1915, the Sharpshooters were sent, as part of London Mounted Brigade, to Egypt to guard the Suez Canal against risk of attack by Turkish forces in the Sinai Desert.

In August 1915 they were sent, dismounted, to reinforce the allied armies in Gallipoli where they were landed at Suvla Bay.

They were almost immediately involved in the unsuccessful attack on Scimitar Hill, the last major attack launched by the British in Gallipoli.  After a further two months in the trenches they were withdrawn to Egypt to rejoin their horses.
