The Insurer

Allan Grant (3rd from left with map) as a sergeant, Easter Camp, 1938 in Farnborough.

Major Allan Grant OBE MC TD – 23rd London Armoured Car Company (The Sharpshooters) and 3rd County of London Yeomanry (The Sharpshooters)

Allan Grant was born in 1911 and in 1929 after leaving Dulwich College joined the 23rd London Armoured Car Company (The Sharpshooters) as a private, and EIO (Ecclesiastical Insurance) as a junior clerk.

Allan rose to sergeant and was commissioned in 1938 at the time when The Sharpshooters became a tank regiment as the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (The Sharpshooters).  This Sharpshooters tradition of recruiting officers from the ranks continued throughout the war, and did much to establish the very strong esprit de corps for which they were famed.
