The Fishmonger

Doug on ANZAC Day 25th April 2014

During captivity, Doug, along with many other Allied prisoners, suffered many hardships and privations, but he never lost his sense of humour.

After the war he emigrated to Australia and served for 15 years in the Australian Army Reserve – first the 7th Field Regiment Royal Australian Artillery and then the Australian Army Transport Corps. His military service finally came to an end in 1980 when he turned 60 years of age.

Nevertheless he remained active and independent and was still driving at the ripe old age of 96! Doug passed away on the 10th April 2017 just 6 days short of his 97th birthday.
