The Regiment waiting to shoot at Castlemartin Ranges in South Wales, 1952

The Post War years in armour

After the end of Hostilities, 3rd/4th CLY remained on occupation duties in Germany until September 1946

The Territorial Army was restored from 1947 and the Regiment remained an armoured unit as part of 56th Armoured Division

The majority of the Regiment’s personnel were National Servicemen and Reservists.

In 1956 the Regiment changed from a tank unit to an armoured car unit as they were moved to 44th (Home Counties) Division. B Squadron moved to Croydon and C Squadron to Harrow.

In 1959 the association with the Royal Tank Regiment ended and the Royal Dragoons became the parent Regiment.

The Sharpshooters amalgamated with the Kent Yeomanry in 1961.
