Three Generations of Sharpshooters

From left to right: Alex, Freddy and Peter Crowley in 2004

Three generations of the Crowley family have proudly served with the Sharpshooters.

Captain Freddy Crowley MM served in tanks with 3CLY throughout World War Two. He had joined up in the 1930s, keen to drive a Rolls Royce armoured car. He arrived in Egypt in 1941 as squadron sergeant major, and was commissioned in the field in 1943. Freddy’s medals are on display in the medal cabinet.

His son Peter Crowley has recently retired as a shipping solicitor in London, and can often be seen volunteering at our museum. His pride and joy is the Saladin armoured car outside, the same type as the ones he drove when serving with the regiment in the 1970s. Peter also served as welfare officer for the Sharpshooters association.

Freddy’s grandson Alex Crowley served with the Sharpshooters in Croydon in the early 2000s, and works in online trading in the City of London.
