Who Are We

Who Were We ? 1794-1900

Over 200 years ago we were Yeomen, those who owned and cultivated small country estates.  We volunteered for service as Yeomanry or mounted troops, ready to oppose invasion or insurrection.

150 years ago,  before the establishment of modern police forces, we were available to be called out by the local magistrate in cases of civil unrest.

Once police forces took over these roles we could concentrate on our training as volunteer cavalry.

We first saw overseas service as Imperial Yeomanry in the Boer War 1899-1902
