THE WOMEN OF THE EDEN VALLEY had to take over traditionally male jobs to keep the country going. Here are just a few roles then women stepped in to locally:
Tannery – producing leather much in demand during the war
Military – Particularly in the WRAF at Penshurst.
Agriculture – 850 members of the Women's Land Army in Kent
Hospitals – there were numerous VAD hospitals locally.
