Women in the War

THE WOMEN OF THE EDEN VALLEY had to take over traditionally male jobs to keep the country going. Here are just a few roles then women stepped in to locally:

  • —Tannery – producing leather much in demand during the war
  • —Military – Particularly in the WRAF at Penshurst.
  • —Agriculture – 850 members of the Women's Land Army in Kent
  • —Hospitals – there were numerous VAD hospitals locally.
